For over two decades, the Waterloo Street Centre served as a familiar place of care for many clients in Freetown.

Through its doors came women, men, young people, and families seeking healthcare, information, counselling, reassurance, and support. For many, the centre was more than a building. It was a place where they could ask questions, access services, and receive care in moments that mattered.

As Marie Stopes Sierra Leone transitions from Waterloo Street Centre to the new Lamina Sankoh Street Centre, we pause to honour the legacy of a centre that has been part of our story for more than twenty years.

Over the years, Waterloo Street Centre supported access to essential healthcare services and contributed to Marie Stopes Sierra Leone’s mission of helping people make informed choices about their health and future. It served clients from different walks of life and became part of the organisation’s long-standing presence in Freetown.

The closing of Waterloo Street Centre is not the end of that story. It is the continuation of a legacy.

The same commitment to quality care, privacy, dignity, and client support now continues at the Lamina Sankoh Street Centre, a modern facility located at No. 7 Lamina Sankoh Street, Freetown.

The new centre brings together a wider range of services under one roof, including family planning, maternal health services, cervical cancer screening, breast health services, laboratory diagnostics, pharmacy services, ultrasound services, general medical consultations, and health insurance access.

This transition allows Marie Stopes Sierra Leone to serve clients in a more integrated and comfortable environment while preserving the heart of what Waterloo Street Centre represented for so many years: care that people could trust.

We are grateful to every client, staff member, partner, and community member who has been part of the Waterloo Street Centre journey. Its impact will not be forgotten.

As we say thank you to Waterloo Street Centre, we look forward with hope and confidence.

The doors may have closed at Waterloo Street, but the care continues at Lamina Sankoh Street Centre.
