Marie Stopes Sierra Leone has officially opened the Lamina Sankoh Street Centre, a modern health facility designed to bring quality, integrated, and client-centred healthcare closer to the people of Freetown.

Located at No. 7 Lamina Sankoh Street, the centre marks a new chapter in how Marie Stopes Sierra Leone delivers care. It brings together a wide range of services under one roof, making it easier for clients to receive the support they need in one comfortable and private space.

The Lamina Sankoh Street Centre offers family planning services, maternal health services, cervical cancer screening, breast health services, laboratory diagnostics, pharmacy services, ultrasound services, general medical consultations, and health insurance access.

For clients, this means less movement from one place to another, better access to information, and a smoother service experience. For Marie Stopes Sierra Leone, it is part of a bigger commitment to continue improving how healthcare is delivered across the country.

The opening of the centre also comes as Marie Stopes Sierra Leone enters its 40th year of service in Sierra Leone. Since 1986, the organisation has continued to provide sexual and reproductive healthcare, reaching clients through centres, outreach teams, and community-based programmes across the country.

Speaking during the opening, Mohamed Kabba, Country Director of Marie Stopes Sierra Leone, highlighted the important role that centres play in sustaining the organisation’s wider work. He noted that while Marie Stopes Sierra Leone continues to reach hard-to-reach communities with much-needed sexual and reproductive health services, strong and well-equipped centres help sustain that work and keep services moving.

“Our centres are part of our sustainability strategy. They help ensure that we can consistently provide much-needed sexual and reproductive health services to women, girls, and families in hard-to-reach communities who may otherwise not have access to these services.”

Mohamed Kabba – Country Director

For many women, girls, men, young people, and families, access to healthcare is not only about availability. It is also about privacy, dignity, trust, and the confidence that their needs will be met with respect. The Lamina Sankoh Street Centre was created with that in mind.

As part of the opening event, guests toured the facility and experienced a healthcare exhibition, a commemorative plaque unveiling, and a special reflection on Marie Stopes Sierra Leone’s journey of impact over the years.

The Honourable Deputy Minister of Health 1, Prof. Dr. Charles Senessie, commended Marie Stopes Sierra Leone for its long-standing contribution to healthcare in Sierra Leone and encouraged continued investment in health services that support the country’s goal of universal health coverage.

“Through your work, we continue to see fewer unintended pregnancies and the provision of youth-friendly services.

Prof. Dr. Charles Senesie

While the opening formed part of the organisation’s 40th-year commemoration, the heart of the day was the centre itself: a new space built to serve clients better, strengthen access, and support the future of healthcare delivery in Sierra Leone.

The Lamina Sankoh Street Centre now stands as a new home for care, choice, dignity, and possibilities.
