Simon Cooke, CEO, Marie Stopes International

Simon Cooke joined Marie Stopes International as CEO in 2013 with more than 25 years’ experience in international management, and extensive field experience in developed and developing countries, including Latin America, Eastern Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

He is a veteran of the consumer goods industry, having spent 15 years with Procter & Gamble and eight years with Reckitt Benckiser, where he was General Manager for Middle East and North Africa until 2012, based in Dubai. Subsequently, he was CEO of an Indian-owned, private equity backed industrial company, Super-Max, also based in Dubai.

His vision is to merge best practices from the private sector, including financial metrics, with successful approaches from the international development sector to deliver better value for donors and stakeholders, better accountability and governance, and most importantly, more sustainable delivery of Marie Stopes International’s mission: children by choice, not chance.

Helen Blackholly, Vice President & Director Health Systems

Helen is responsible for the Health Systems Department, which includes the development of partnership best practice and channel success models, and working closely with the Operations Department to ensure best practice is followed in all countries.

She is also responsible for leading on the development of social marketing, client call centre strategy, medical abortion core packages, and health financing to assist country programmes in leveraging domestic financing opportunities.

Helen brings more than 20 years of hands-on commercial experience in demand generation. Her primary areas of expertise are: go-to-Market channel strategy development; revenue management; sales and marketing activation new product launch excellence, and designing and building effective teams.

Helen has worked in leadership roles across a range of retail and consumer goods manufacturing companies including Revlon UK, Colgate Palmolive, and Reckitt Benckiser. She has a MSc in Biological Anthropology from University College London and a PhD in Food Policy from the University of Bradford.

Sue Holland, Regional Director, West Africa & Latin America

Sue Holland first joined Marie Stopes International in 1994 as a Senior Programme Manager supporting our South Asia Programmes.

Prior to joining our diverse team she had eight years of experience working in the private sector with sales and marketing in a multinational company.

After working with us for four years Sue moved on to Business Development at Freeplay Foundation before heading to Namibia with Population Services as a Country Director. Before returning to Marie Stopes International in 2012, Sue spent five years working for the UK National Health Sector.

We are very happy to have such a dedicated person back in our team as the Regional Director for our country programmes in West and Central Africa.

Monica Greene, Regional Medical Advisor

Monica Greene started her career as a registered nurse midwife, then studied community medicine and health while working for the Sierra Leone Red Cross.

Her passion for women’s health and development provided the drive for her to study reproductive health, and later development management, at the University of Sierra Leone.

She has been a part of Marie Stopes International for 15 years, starting with Marie Stopes Sierra Leone, where she made sizeable contributions to the expansion in size and scope of the programme. For the past six years, she has been working with the Medical Development Team as a Regional Medical Advisor and clinical trainer, supporting country programmes to achieve sustained quality in sexual and reproductive health service delivery.
